5 Fun Free Things To Do in Columbus

5 Free Fun Things to Do in Columbus

When traveling to new places, you don't really have to spend so much money because you can always find fun and free things to do, if you do your research! Columbus is a city full of life so finding places to see and things to do that are fun and free aren't difficult! Today, I'm going to share with you my top 5 spots in Cbus that will sure make your trip memorable.

Short North

1. Explore Short North

The Short North Arts District is known as the art and soul of Cbus. It is the most vibrant and lively spot in Cbus with over 300 businesses ranging from restaurants, coffee shops, bars and grills, retail stores, thrift stores, and so many more!

One fun thing my husband and I did there was going mural hunting! They have this thing called Public Art where there are 19 murals spread along the N High strip, and we decided to check them out. We weren't able to see all of them, because the heat was unbearable, and we didn't have enough to because we had planned to see another spot, but the entire experience was very fun. You can walk along N High street and try to find the murals without any help, but if you want to save a little bit of time, you can download the map here so you know exactly where the murals are at.

Here are a few pictures of the ones we found:

I knew I wanted to drive by Short North at night because I knew that the famous Short North Arches will be lit up! And I was surprised to see how their Saturday night was very much alive! If you are in the city for a great time, be sure to go to Short North!

2. Explore Columbus Park of Roses

The Columbus Park of Roses is 10 minutes away from the city centre, and it's a great place to unwind and relax! If you are an outdoorsy person, you'll really enjoy walking around this park because it's peaceful and beautiful, especially when you go visit when the roses are in season! Jorge and I visited at the wrong time I guess because only a few roses were open. But I'm sure, if you visit around spring time and early summer, you'll get to see this park in all its glory! This park is perfect for weddings, engagement shoots, and romantic picnic dates!

When we went, it was raining a little bit so the place looked a little bit gloomy, but it made the entire place perfect for shooting pictures! PHOTOGRAPHY TIP: Overcast days are one of the best light settings to shoot photos! 👍🏻  So naturally, I got a few more OOTD shots at that place! :) In case you missed my parking lot ootd shoot, click here!

Exploring Park of Roses made me feel like a child in a secret garden! I've always wondered how it felt like to be in a magical garden and Cbus made that a reality for me! It's definitely a place everyone should check out!

3. Explore The Book Loft

If you love books then The Book Loft is a dream come true!✨ The Book Loft is located in German Village, and it's one of the nation's largest independent bookstores, which shelters 32 rooms of bargain books! You read that correctly; 32 rooms of nothing but books! Can you imagine the smell of the air in that place? YASSSS... 😍  It felt like I was in Disneyland! There were rooms after rooms after rooms of thousands of books! I promise you, it's every bibliophile's dream!

Although it's free to browse around, it's almost difficult to come out of that place empty handed! As Jorge and I were about to leave the place, I found the Game of Thrones Ultimate Collector's Item box set, and I told him: "You know, for a Game of Thrones fan, it's strange that I don't own (or have read) any of the books..." Then the next thing I know, I was paying for it at the register!😂  It's probably my favorite purchase from my Cbus trip!

4. Stroll around the Easton Town Center

Easton Town Center is a place you shouldn't dare miss if you are visiting Cbus! They have over 200 shopping, dining and entertainment venues, in a very upscale town setting! If you're not looking to spend your money, it's still a great place to visit because everything about the place is beautiful, and it looked extremely safe for children, if you are traveling with kids! It's twenty minutes away from the city centre, but it's worth seeing! If you check out their website, you'll see all their events like an outdoor movie night, yoga, concerts, food festivals, and some of which are free! Be sure to stay until the sun goes down so you get to see their gorgeous fountain at night!

5. See the World's Largest Gavel

I wonder how many people could say that they've seen the world's largest gavel.🤔 I bet only a few can, and I'm so glad I'm one of them! It's not everyday that you get to see a "world's largest" anything, so when I discovered that Cbus has the world's largest gavel, I knew I had to see it! It measures 30-foot-long by 13-foot-high, and you'll find this art installation at 65 S Front St, just in front of the Ohio Judicial Center.

BONUS: Take a photo of Cbus' Skyline

Here's a bonus fun free thing to do in Cbus: take a photo of the Cbus Skyline! I didn't include it as a main thing in this post, because Jorge and I had to pay for parking at the Nationwide Children's Hospital. We drove all the way up to the top floor of the hospital's garage to see the skyline, but there are other spots where you can see the skyline for free. Here are a few places:  Grandview Ave bridge over 670, 11th floor study room of Thompson Library at OSU, the new Main St. bridge, Northbank Park, shooting South.

We kind of regretted taking this shot early because it would have looked so good at night! Imagine all the light trails and bokeh shots we could have taken!

PS: I died at the top of the hospital's garage, it was too high and in case you didn't already know, I'm scared of heights!!! I had my husband take the photo for me!

Those were my top 5 fun free things to do in Columbus! Be sure to check these places out when you do visit Columbus because I really enjoyed experiencing a glimpse of the Life in Cbus! To learn more about Cbus and their upcoming events, please check out the links below:
