"If you could go back in time, what advice would you tell your younger self?"
As usual, when I'm relaxing on the couch or in my bed, I check my YouTube subscriptions and watch fashion and beauty videos to keep me inspired and to keep me hungry for products I probably don't need. As I browse through YouTube, I can't help but notice these #DearMe posts floating around and it reminded me of Helga's blog post called "dear young(er) helga". I was planning to write one up too, but I just didn't have the time to really do it. #procrastination
Ahead of International Women's Day on March 8, YouTube launched their #DearMe campaign as a global campaign initiative to empower girls, all over the world, to be confident and reach for their dreams. Youtubers have been participating by posting videos talking about the advices that are not only helpful to their younger selves, but also to all the young girls around the globe. Being a teenager is tough, we've all been there, and this campaign has inspired me to finally write up this blog post that I think would have helped nene Corinth while she was growing up.
It all starts with two words:
You are stronger than you know
I know life has been pretty tough on you, and there were times when you felt like you couldn't do it anymore, but know that you are stronger than you think. You lost your dad when you were just 8, you cried but you got through it. You lost your mom to cancer and you didn't know what to do (where do we go from here?), but you moved on, you and your sisters made it out of that situation, alive! You are stronger than you know, just hold on!
You are beautiful
I know that most of the time, when you looked at yourself in the mirror, you saw an ugly reflection. You were always insecure about your face, your body, your teeth most especially. You always covered your mouth when you smiled because you were scared of what people will think of your teeth. yuck gross ugly pangit!! You are wrong Corinth! You are beautiful, and you don't need others to reassure you that. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, by God, and everything He has created is beautiful, and that is the truth! You have no reason to feel insecure about your physical appearance. You may not notice this at first but the heart of a person is what people usually looks at and appreciates. Your heart is the best reflection of you! Keep your heart pure and beautiful and that's what people will see in you! Believe in that, then look again, a beautiful Corinth will be staring back at you.
You are loved
Growing up, you never really had a father figure and I guess that's one of the reasons why you've had so many failed relationships. You were always seeking out for somebody to love you because you felt like nobody was making you feel special. You felt lonely and was so desperate for affection that you made terrible decisions in life. You're going to regret most of them too so let me tell you (again) what your Christian school and church have been advertising since your first year of highschool, TRUE LOVE WAITS. You're gonna meet the love of your life when you're 22 and you're gonna marry him. Just chill!
Also to help you avoid all those mistakes along your years of finding yourself, know that you are loved. Love doesn't always have to come in the form of a man with flowers in one hand and chocolates in the other. Love is not always the romantic kind. That's what you failed to understand. Love is all around you but you were too blinded by what the world thinks of love. Love is in the air, it's within your family, your friends, your readers, and even your pet cat! You are loved and please try your best to acknowledge it.
You are awesome
You are talented and you know it! Do not be afraid to show the world what you are capable of because you are unique and the world will need more of you! Keep singing, keep writing, know what you love to do and keep doing it! Be confident in who you are and what you can do and you will flourish. Do not doubt this for one second: you are awesome!
You are blessed
No matter how many times you've failed, no matter how many times you've fallen on your knees (with cuts and bruises and blood), no matter how many tear drops you've shed, and no matter how many times you've felt like you are one unfortunate human being, remember that you are blessed! Appreciate the little things, like a happy thought or the fact that you wore the right shoes on a rainy day. Those are beautiful things and I think those count as blessings too! You are blessed in countless ways and I hope you will acknowledge them. Do not dwell on your mishaps, smile and think of the good things. I know you can be pretty "emo" at times and you like to be in your dark side, but please remember to lighten up Corinth. Be happy, for you are blessed!
How about you? What would advice would you give your younger self? I'd love to read your #DearMe post! You can tell me about it by writing in the comment box below or you can give me a link to your blog post!
