How I Keep It Fresh "Down There" Postpartum
"The following is sponsored by Summer's Eve®, however the opinions are my own."
After giving birth to my sweet Adeline a month and a half ago, I’ve come to the conclusion that postpartum recovery is actually harder than pregnancy, labor and delivery combined! I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this! Comment an “amen“ below if you’re with me!
I didn’t realize how hard recovery would be and I wasn’t prepared for it at all! The pain, the lochia that didn’t seem to end, the odor (oh gosh, the odor!), the itchiness, the pain! It honestly felt like it was never going to end, but 10 weeks into it now, I still am not 100% recovered, but I am in much better shape!
In the past 10 weeks of my recovery journey, I’ve learned how important it is to take care of my lady part even more than ever. So today, I’m going to share with you a few ways on how I’ve kept things fresh “down there” postpartum.
1. The “Peri” Bottle
If you’ve gone through child birth, you know exactly what I’m talking about. This is a must-have in every mom’s bathroom and/or bag especially during the recovery weeks. This helps wash the vagina in a gentle manner, keeping it fresh every time we have to go pee or number 2.
It’s a squeezy bottle that you fill with warm water and you squirt it in your region, leaving your beat up vagina in so much relief! This was honestly the best thing I brought home from the hospital!
2. Medicated Cooling Pads
This stuff is amazing especially for those women who have had tears during delivery, aka, me! My daughter gave me two tears, one was a more severe one, so I benefited from these medicated cooling pads very much. It has witch hazel which helps soothe and protect the wounded areas of the vagina. During the earlier stages of my recovery, I used these daily because I love how cooling it is.
3. Summer’s Eve® Cleansing Cloths
For when I’m out and about, I make sure to pack my Summer’s Eve® cleansing cloths so I don’t use my daughter’s wipes. These cloths are a quick and easy way to keep my vagina feeling clean and fresh, especially after giving birth. They’re very gentle, free from dyes, parabens, and alcohol, infused with botanical extracts, and are balanced for a woman's natural pH. They also smell really good! I know my lady part loves them!
4. Warm Showers
I don’t think I know anybody who doesn’t like warm showers. It’s honestly one of the best ways to unwind and feel really relaxed! Not only are they good for the body, it’s also good for the soul! Every time I hop in the shower, I make sure I don’t forget to wash my vaginal area. I’ve been using Simply Summer’s Eve® Coconut Water Cleansing Wash for my external vaginal area because it is made with simple ingredients that I know is safe for me, it washes away odor-causing bacteria, and it smells like vacation! Even though my family wasn’t able to go to a beach this summer, hopping in the shower is able to take me to paradise!
5. Changing Pads/Liners Regularly
Finally, I try my best to change my pads and/or liners regularly to avoid odor, and to keep my vagina dry, clean, and fresh at all times. This is such a simple task but it makes the world of a difference for our little friend down there.
