7 Ways on How To Have A Happy Period | #PeriodPower
Periods suck. Why? When people say period, women think cramps, headaches, heavy bleeding (oh, all that blood 😳), unexplainable cravings (give me all the chocolate please), and last but definitely not least, the (sometimes) uncontrollable mood swings: from 😃 to 😭 real quick. That's the ugly truth and women have to go through it every month, of every year! It's the monthsary nobody wants to celebrate.
Women often feel less confident and less happy during their periods, myself included and I think it's time that we turn things around. There is actually nothing shameful about our periods and it's time that we take control over this monthly occurrence. It's a natural thing and since we can't fight it, we might as well embrace it, with lots of smiles. Today, I will be sharing with you 7 ways on how to feel happy, comfortable and confident during your period, because believe it or not, periods can be fun too!
1. Be happy with the fact that you are getting your period regularly!
I guess this should be the first thing to remember when you are feeling a little grumpy about your monthly menstruation. Having regular menstrual cycles is a sign that your body parts are working normally. Your periods provide important body chemicals, called hormones, to keep your body in good condition, so whenever you start to feel the cramps, smile about it because it means you're healthy! Lastly, your menstruations prepare your bodies for pregnancy. It's very important to be reminded of that, especially for aspiring moms like myself.
And if you're single, this also means that you're not pregnant. 😅
2. If the pain gets a little too much to bear, it's okay to drink medicine!
I don't know why, but Filipinos believe in waiting until it's too late, before they start taking medication for any pain or illness. Okay, maybe that's a little exaggerated, but I remember not taking medicine immediately whenever I started feeling cramps or headaches. Now, I relieve my dysmenorrhea the minute I start feeling it. I take any kind of pain reliever I have in hand and I've noticed that it helps with my mood swings. A pain-free menstrual cycle is a happier one!
3. Go bananas on bananas!
We usually feel a little heavier during our period and that alone can put us in an off mood. So here's a tip, go bananas on bananas! 🍌
Bananas are rich in vitamin B6 and potassium which helps us feel less bloated and it also helps with menstrual cramps! It's like killing two birds with one stone. And who doesn't like bananas? The saying should go: a banana a day, keeps the bloated feeling/menstrual cramps away! 😉
4. Make sure you're using products that work best for you!
Don't you just hate it when your pad or tampon just won't let you #GoWithTheFlow? I hate feeling uncomfortable because that just makes me even more moody and upset, so it's important for me to use products that I know will give the absolute comfort and protection!
I use U by Kotex Sleek Regular Tampons and I got mine at Target. First of all, look at them! You guys know how much of a sucker I am for cute packaging so these ones are a definite hit in my book! Their cute and colorful designs definitely put a smile on my face! U by Kotex tampons come in a slim design so they are very comfortable yet still offers great protection so I can stay confident and happy throughout the day! These tampons are very easy to carry around because they're not bulky at all.
One of the best ways to stay clean & fresh is by carrying wet wipes at all times! The SweetSpot On-The-Go Wipes is the perfect period buddy! It's not enough that we stay feeling dry! We also have to keep our "sweet spots" clean and fresh to avoid bad odor. These refreshing wipes are formulated for our "sweet spots" but is actually also great to use for our entire body! I got mine in the scent Grapefruit Verbena and it smells so yummy!
It's perfect to use for a quick clean up (down there), after a tiring workout for that instant refreshed feeling, during a hot day at the beach, or even for just cleaning your hands! #SweetSpotandU deserve to feel refreshed at any time of the day!
I also picked up their Neroli Mandarin Gentle Wash and I love it! It's pH balanced so it's very gentle for daily use and is 97% natural!
6. It's okay to give in to your cravings!
See? There's a bright side to all of this bloody talk, pun intended.😂 It's the perfect time to give in to your cravings. Whether it be a time off from work, a nap, a juicy plate of medium-rare steak, or the usual box of chocolates! I do this all the time! I use my period as the perfect excuse to eat an entire bar of chocolate with almonds, and that's okay! I mean, after all the agony and pain we'll have to go through, we should at least be able to eat or do what makes us happy, right?
What's your go-to period snack or activity?
7. Stop feeling self-conscious!
I think this is very important to remember because like I said earlier, there's really nothing to be ashamed about menstruations! Nobody actually pays attention to your shopping cart when you're out to buy your period needs; no one's on the hunt for a bloody butt, nobody's on the search for that period smell and what do they care if you are on your period? It really helps a lot to free our minds from these silly little things. We should just focus on staying comfortable and feeling fresh, and once we have those two down, happiness will just take over!
I hope you found these tips helpful!
