Why I'm Throwing Away All My Makeup

Why I'm Switching to Clean Beauty

This is no clickbait. I really am throwing away my makeup.

Last month, I decided to go all in with using only clean beauty products so obviously, I have stopped using the makeup and skincare products I already had before. Since giving birth to Adeline, I naturally felt the urge to make better choices in life from the food we eat, the places we go to, the things that we give her, and to the products we use on ourselves, and this urge only got stronger as Adeline grew older.

As a blogger and a self-proclaimed makeup addict, I continue to doll up for work because I have to look presentable for photos, videos, events and whatnot, and whenever I have to hold Adeline, I always pull away from her because I don’t want her to touch my face. Not only because I don’t want her to ruin my makeup but because in the back of my mind, I know that the cake on my face isn’t good for her! Also I hate that I can’t kiss her when I have makeup on! Mommies, you know the feeling right? And I thought this has got to stop!

Did you know that The United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938?

Over the past two decades, the European Union has banned close to 1,400 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products. The United States has only partially banned 30! 3o!!! With all of that said, it’s scary to think that there are thousands and thousands of harmful chemicals in the products we use daily, from soaps, shampoos, house cleaning products, baby products, our skincare and makeup products, so on and so forth. And guess what? Brands still continue to produce products with these chemicals knowing that they are bad for us!

Why I'm Switching to Clean Beauty

The skin is the largest organ of our body and it’s just as important as the heart. Whatever we apply on our skin doesn’t affect just our skin; it affects our whole well-being. So when I learned all these things, I decided to ditch my nasty skincare and makeup products and switch to clean and non-toxic goodness.

My ditch & switch process has been slow because we don’t have extra money lying around and if you really think about all the products that you own and use constantly, IT’S A LOT, and these clean & non-toxic stuff ain’t cheap! But I am being more conscious about the things we buy now, and I make sure I educate my husband about this new clean lifestyle we are trying to attain.

  • Adeline’s baby products - we are now using Beautycounter’s baby bath set and HelloBello products like their lotion and diapers

  • My skincare products - Follain is a great place to start switching your beauty products

  • My makeup - Last month, I signed up to be a Beautycounter consultant and have been using their makeup products constantly. I will share my favorite clean makeup products soon

  • Bath & Body products - I haven’t switched them all just yet, but I am in the process of doing so. I’m currently using Ursa Major’s shampoo & conditioner, Herbivore’s rose body scrub, all of which I got from Follain.

  • My perfume - fragrance is one of the biggest irritants in our beauty products and boy I am so happy to have discovered Ellis Brooklyn, a perfume company from NYC that doesn’t use the bad stuff! My current favorite scents: Fawn and Myth

  • (SOON) Household products - Young Living will be my go-to place to shop for household items like toothpaste, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, essential oils, and etc.

BEAUTYCOUNTER: If you want to shop some Beautycounter products at a discounted price, shoot me a message!

I know the haters will say that this is too extra and we’re all going to die anyway.

But I personally want to live a long and full life with my daughter and husband, and if I can help that by having better control over the products we use as a family, I will do so. This is not just the next big beauty trend; it’s a public health issue and I want to be part of the movement that educates people about better options! I will be sharing more about this new lifestyle here on the blog because there’s just so much to share.

I’m so glad I was kind of able to share with you my why, and hopefully, I was able to inspire you to check yourself, and maybe urge you to learn more about this #cleanbeauty and #nontoxic living.

PS: I am giving away most of my old makeup & skincare products to friends and family. BUT I usually only give away products that I haven’t used yet, so yes, I am throwing away most of my products.
